Not only are they great songwriters but also as a band they are accomplished producers...
Christian Hopwood 2002-11-20
Three years ago Skinny entered the musical arena with the release of their critically acclaimed debut The Weekend.
The single "Failure", a quirky testimony to self-loathing, did much to raise their profile and was astrong indication that this was a band with ability and a healthy sense of humour. Then, much
to their frustration, their record company was sold to a major and in the process all of the acts were frozen until the deal was done. Cryogenic suspension anyone?
However, the interim was well spent with Matty Benbrook joining forces with label mates Faithless, benefiting from Rollo's studio expertise. Meanwhile, chief songwriter Paul Herman helped Rollo's
soon-to-be-very-famous sister Dido with the writing of No Angel, in particular "Thank You" as used by Eminem on "Stan".
Away from the promotional rigmarole Skinny have grown up, reassessed and paid attention to the detail on this impressive second album.
Taller is a departure from their concept debut to a more song-based approach. That said the furrow ploughed by this album is wide, offering an innovative sound that draws on post-club electronica
as well as the more traditional rock elements.
"Coming Up Roses" creates its' optimism with a surge of guitars, giant drums and a soul stirring admission, 'I'm taller than houses, I'm faster than the brightest light, I'm the king of England'.
Passionate stuff, but things don't alwayssmellso good as Skinny's focus takes in the lows as well as the highs.
Paul's meditation on family "Worth It" poses difficulties, 'The lying, the crying and the fighting, the judgement, the time spent in denial. Was it worth it?' Yet, their take on Gunter Kallman
Choir's 'Daydream', "On A Beautiful Day" is a summer time dub that raises the mood again.
Not only are they great songwriters but also, as a band, they are accomplished producers well versed in the art of keeping things polished, simple and interesting. Skinny are, by their own
admission, a new band who feel like they are starting again and in a peculiar way they are making a second debut with this aptly named release. Time has been a difficult taskmaster for Paul,
Matty, Tim and Dave but they have returned in fine style. Bigger. Brighter. Taller.

For all the people out there who say none of this music is in the Animatrix or for the one guy who said it's all in there.
Most of it is, and 2 or 3 tracks are not featured in the film. That's how it always goes with soundtracks.
(All of these are approximations, don't get too nitpicky, ok?)
1. Peace Orchestra "Who Am I?" (Animatrix Edit) - Kid's Story - This one is heard in the morning whilst the boy eats breakfast and skateboards to school and ends when he closes his locker.
2. Free*Land "Big Wednesday" - The Second Renaissance Part One - This one begins as soon as we see the large overview of the futuristic city at the beginning of the short (after the red and
yellow introduction), and ends after the large 'robots toiling tirelessly scene'.
3. Layo & Bushwacka! "Blind Tiger" - Detective Story - This one begins when Mr. Ash 'looks at his bank account balance' and ends when he goes to see the 'one that's left, the crazy one.' But
is spliced up a bit, so any voice in the actual song isn't in the film.
4. Supreme Beings of Leisure "Under the Gun" - Detective Story - This one begins when Ash rushes out the door to catch the train, and ends when he enters Trinity's train compartment. Again, it's
spliced up to use the good bits without any singing.
5. Meat Beat Manifesto "Martenot Waves" - The Second Renaissance Part One - This one begins after the Versitran ad, and runs for a short 25 or so seconds during the news clips before the UN
scene.
6. Photek "Ren 2" - The Second Renaissance Part One - This one plays during the news clips of the robots being (partly) wiped out after the B166ER trial.
7. Death In Vegas "Hands Around My Throat" - Beyond - This one is heard in the background of the teenaged girl's phone conversation.
8. Junkie XL "Beauty Never Fades" (Animatrix Edit) - I don't think this one appears in the Animatrix at all, unless.. just maybe it plays during the robots advancing outward in all directions
after Zero-One is bombed (in 2nd Renaissance Part2).. if it is, it plays for about 7 seconds, so I can't tell.
9. Overseer "Supermoves" (Animatrix Remix) - The Second Renaissance Part Two - The battle scene.
10. Juno Reactor "Conga Fury" (Animatrix Mix) - The Final Flight of the Osiris - The opening sword fight.
11. Junkie XL/Don Davis "Red Pill, Blue Pill"
(featuring dialogue from The Matrix)
AND
12. Tech Itch/Don Davis "The Real"
(featuring dialogue from The Matrix Reloaded)
Are NOT featured, as far as I know. And by the way, you labeling fools, the quote from the Merovingian in Track 12, "You are ready to die..? (..for this man)" Actually appears in The Matrix
Revolutions, but was in a preview for both the 2nd and 3rd Matrix films, so I can understand the confusion. And it might be in the trailer at the end of the 2nd film's credits too.

Mexican Singer/Songwriter Graciela Maria has been singing since she was a little kid.
Having livied in Mexico City for many years, she was part of the mexican electronic music scene and made music with local producers signal deluxe.
In 2009 she met berlin based producer Robot Koch in New York at his show at Coco66 in Brooklyn.
They started making music together and Grace was featured on Robot`s album “Death Star Droid” as well as on the Ep “Listen To Them Fade”.
2009 marked the beginning of a journey both musically and geographically for Graciela, as she moved from Mexico City to Berlin and started playing shows wolrdwide with Robot Koch.
They played everywhere from the Sonar Festival in barcelona to some obscure art festivals in Bulgaria and Tunesia.
With Many Places, Graciela Maria`s stunning debut album, she into the light as more than just a featured vocalist on Koch`s electronica and dubstep driven compositions:
Her own music breathes the vibe of classic singer/songwriters like Tim Buckley and Elliot Smith, with the music and the production being even more organic and live sounding than on the previous
Koch tracks.
The songwriting took place all over the world, as Grace traveled and lived in many places recently, accompanied by her little notebook and her digital camera, which she uses to record song ideas
on all the time. The topics she deals with are both surreal and personal and leave it up to the listener to be interpretated.
Producer Robot Koch teamed up with friend and fellow musician Sneaky (Fingathing / Ninja Tune) to create this organic and retro futuristic sounding album, that incorporates Double Bass, Live
Drums, Cello and other String instruments and well as a subtle touch of cutting edge electronic production which Robot Koch is know for.
Graciela Maria is definately an artist to watch out for in the future as she proves to create timeless pieces of music that are appealing to Indie/Pop listeners and lover`s of electronic music

Pleasantly gentle album is Left in the first minutes of listening, since they belong to the title track, revealing sets the tone and mood of the entire collection of the author.
This is, in general, the focus of the velvet melancholy and depressive feelings impurities, wrapped in a surreal atmosphere oppressive. All this is always the best traditions of such genres as
trip-hop and downtempo, but somewhere on the side of leaving idm, with already established leitmotif misty cool sound.

More than three intensive years of labouring are over. The work is done - Precious, Vargo's new album, is finished.
The duo from Hamburg, Germany, consisting of producer and multi-instrumentalist Ansgar Üffink and the versatile, beguiling singer Stephanie Hundertmark, was the first German band to be featured
in the internationally celebrated CD series ‘Café del Mar’, and subsequently established itself as a permanent resident there. By now, Vargo tracks appear on far more than 150 compilations, which
together have sold more than two million copies. Their debut album "Beauty" has become an international classic and managed to sell more than 50,000 copies all over the world without backing by a
major label, building a worldwide fan-base and making Vargo one of the most successful bands of its genre.
However, all of these figures, events and success stories appear less significant, once you immerse yourself deeper in Vargo’s world. It turns out to be about much more than album sales or
contributions to compilations, about more than intelligent, multifaceted music that is produced with a passion for detail and that fluctuates between Ambient, Trip Hop, Electronica and pop
grooves. Ansgar and Stephanie have an objective, a strong wish, their aim is to communicate, to inspire and to stimulate.
