Taught by his father, Niels Viggo Bentzon - one of the great composers in Danish contemporary music. Educated at Berklee College, Boston, 1983-86, graduated magna cum laude. Has distinguished
himself as leader of own trio. Leader of successful jazz/funk bands, most recently "Bentzon Brotherhood" (albums: BMG 74321422612, BMG 74321626452, OffBeat 001, Cope Records 041, DR Records
1001). Also works as a composer and arranger. Recently signed with Danish Broadcasting Cooperation Production for his 10th release as a leader. His seventh album features funk legends Paul
Jackson and Mike Clark from the ground-breaking "Herbie Hancock Headhunters". Has been asked -in the absence of Herbie Hancock - to join the Headhunters for touring. Joined the grammy award
winning Danish Radio Big Band in 1990.

Bentzon began winning awards at the age of 19, when he was selected best soloist at the Dunkerque Jazz Festival. In 1983 he was selected as the first jazz musician to receive the prestigeous
Jacob Gade Award, and soon afterward went on to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he won the Oscar Peterson Jazz Award in 1985, and from which he graduated i 1986.

Bentzon continues to win awards, such as the Danish Jazz, Rock and Folk Composers´ Honorary Award for original compositions. Double prizewinner at the Annual International Jazz Theme Competition
in Monaco and winner of European Jazz Federation´s annual "Jazz Contest". Co-composing and piano duo performances with his father, the well-respected composer Niels Viggo Bentzon, brought Bentzon
early critical attention and acclaim.

Longtemps entre-aperçu, trop longtemps espéré, Dunham sort enfin le premier album de Charles Bradley.



Le label du guitariste des Dap-Kings, Tom Brenneck, nous avait distillé depuis deux ans quelques titres, juste de quoi nous faire saliver.

Découvert par Gabe Roth (un des fondateurs de Daptone Records) après un show à Big Apple, c'est sous l’égide du label New Yorkais que Charles Bradley commence par chanter de la bonne vieille funk
avec les Sugarman 3 et les Bullets. Mais c’est avec Tommy « TNT » Breneck que son répertoire s’oriente vers la soul et l’album prend forme au bout de deux ans, rassemblant ses premiers singles et
quelques titres rodés en live.



La première écoute suffit pour savoir à quoi on a affaire, une soul profonde accompagnée parfaitement par le Menahan Street Band. Et ne vous fiez pas à cette mine réjouie qu'il arbore sur la
pochette,Charles Bradley est triste et veut nous le faire savoir avec No Time For Dreaming. Ce premier opus débute avec le titre This World (Is Going Up in Flames), pour finir avec Heataches and
Pain, confirmant tout au long de l’album l’immense talent de Charles Bradley. Ce dernier titre raconte l’histoire du meurtre de son frère et à l’entendre on se dit sans nul doute que si la
tristesse devait parler, elle passerait à coup sûr par ce type là. Enfin comme tout bon disque de soul, il n’oublie pas quelques « love songs » où Charles ne chante pas l’amour, il le crie (Lovin
You). Ajoutez à tout ça un ou deux titres qui renouent un peu avec la soul engagée d’un Curtis Mayfield, avec les morceaux les No Time For Dreaming et Why Is it so Hard, vous aurez alors un des
meilleurs albums soul du troisième millénaire. Les arrangements de Tom Breneck servent parfaitement d’écrin à la voix brute et profonde de Charles Bradley et le son s'inscrit dans la pure
tradition Daptone.



La légende raconte que c ‘est en allant voir un concert de James Brown à l’Appolo en 62 que lui est venue l’idée de chanter.... même là-haut le Godfather continue de nous procurer bien du
plaisir.

Sur la photo de famille de la great black music made in la Nouvelle- Orléans, Malcolm John Rebennack a.k.a. Dr John est ce barbu du 1er rang bardé de gris-gris et d’amulettes qui pose fièrement
entre les Meters, Allen Toussaint, Eddie Bo et Professor Longhair. Canne au pommeau rutilant, sourcil froncé et air faussement menaçant, Dr John peaufine depuis plus de 40 ans son personnage du
Night Tripper, croisement entre un marabout africain et un sorcier vaudou, grand pourvoyeur d’un mélange musical composé de funk, de rock, de jazz, de blues et de psychédélisme. Largement arrosé
de sauce créole et orné de plumes d’Indiens, le tout est connu des locaux sous le nom de Gumbo.



A près de 70 ans, calé derrière ses claviers, sa voix gouailleuse trainant sur la rythmique comme un serpent attiré par la chaleur d’une paire de bottes laissée sur le pas de la porte, le Doc
produit toujours son élixir miracle que les camelots-escrocs en roulotte n’ont jamais pu copier. Un breuvage pur concentré de Louisiane, de ses marécages crasseux et de son immense patrimoine
musical qui, une fois la fiole vidée cul-sec, occasionne foultitude de sentiments voire d’hallucinations visuelles. Certains ont vu l’aube virginale du gospel s’ouvrir pour révéler des Indiens en
tenue d’apparat parés pour la transe, d’autres rapportent la liesse communicative d’un brass band les ayant guidés tout droit dans un bayou moite et hostile où les percussions causent d’énormes
piqûres de moustiques. Fréquentes aussi sont les visions de ce club de jazz pour gens biens dont les murs tombent pour laisser place à un rade mal famé où les tessons parleront dès que la guitare
aura fini de cracher son blues rocailleux. On raconte que certains ont même vu des alligators sortir du disque.



Euphorisante, énergisante, mélancolique, et parfois grave quand elle se fait plus politique, la potion du Dr John cuvée Tribal s’impose comme un grand cru. Ne pas hésiter à doubler les doses.

Après le jazz éthiopianiste de l’Imperial Tiger Orchestra, un autre groupe romand dénommé Professor Wouassa nous invite à explorer l’héritage des diverses traditions issues du continent africain.
Afrobeat, high-life ou ethio-jazz, les six musiciens compulsent les genres pour offrir un son original et une énergie redoutable.

Herman Parker Jr. was born at the heart of the blues in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1932. He died tragically young, from a brain tumour in 1971. In between, he produced some of the most soulful
blues of the ’50s and ’60s. Mentored by Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin’ Wolf and talent-spotted by Ike Turner, Parker started out as Little Junior who, with The Blue Flames cut the riotous
Feelin’ Good and the eerie Mystery Train for Sun Records. Parker’s downhome late-’50s sides for Duke brought him success but when he moved away from hard blues he lost his audience. As a result,
most scholars tend to write off Parker’s later, more soulful sound. This is a shame as his final recordings contain some of the most warm-heated sunshine soul of the period. Cratediggers rate
this album (alt. titled Outside Man in its Capitol incarnation) because of Sonny Lester’s clear production, and in-the-pocket groove from Jimmy McGriff’s soul-jazz combo and Parker’s three
Beatles tracks – Taxman, Tomorrow Never Knows and Lady Madonna – where the singer’s good-hearted character cuts through the clichés, even going so far as to blanche at the meanness of George
Harrison’s lyrics on Taxman (“Oh, this is awful!”). Also worth tracking down is Parker’s glorious cover of Ain’t It Funny How Time Slips Away from the same period; an epic spoken-word reworking
of the Willie Nelson country classic that deserves to sit alongside such other soul overhauls of white radio standards as Isaac Hayes’ By The Time I Get To Phoenix and Bobby Womack’s cover of The
Carpenters’ Close To You.

Fresh, irreverent, and vigorous, Amigos Invisibles defy categorization. The band's base is rock en español with party attitude fueled by world-party verve. "Ultra-Funk" and "Mi Linda" throw the

bossa nova grooves on the mellow "Las Lycras del Avila" and '70s funk rhythms on "Cachete a Cachete." The Venezuelan sextet breaks down barriers on the industry's maniacal need to pigeonhole
music with this amalgam of rhythms, but the CD is easy listening. Charming, even after a dozen spins.

Basés à San Francisco, ce jeune groupe formé en 2005 s'est rapidement fait un nom parmi les quelques groupes de funk qui montent. Leur dernier disque "Into the Infrasounds", sorti à l'automne
2010 est un régal de funk et d'afrobeat. À cette occasion, les Monophonics ont invité quelques talentueux musiciens, dont Karl Denson (The Greyboy Allstars), Mic Gillette (Tower of Power), rien
que ça !!!.  Leur musique  perpétue l'héritage de groupes de funk des années 1970 comme The J.B.'s, The Meters, Headhunters...



Comme pour leur premier album  "Playin and Simple", on est frappé par la qualité de l'enregistrement. Le groupe a de nouveau fait appel aux services des prestigieux et très funky Plant
Studios, qui ont su donner à leur musique la sonorité funk de groupes mythiques comme The Meters. Les thèmes sont bien construits, et comportent d'excellentes parties de cuivres. Toutefois, les
musiciens (mis à part les cuivres), restent assez prudents et ne s'aventurent pas trop dans des solos. Ce type de musique s'y prête pourtant parfaitement.



Attention, leur musique ne manque cependant pas de groove ! Mais avec quelques solos de guitare et d'orgue en plus, ça aurait été le top !

PalmaCoco, is a Latin music group, created by producer Sr.Ortegon Cali. His musical style is what they call the "BoogaFlow" (mix of  60´s latin boogaloo and urban music).



The idea of merging the old school salsa, theboogaloo, the shing-a-ling, mambo, with urban music, was born in Paris  nearly 10 years with the DJ "Fercho the Bacan" and the artistic director
of Boogaloo Concept, Stan Galou.  This was because the rhythm pattern has always been an obsession the Sr.Ortegon,  and he belives that the latin Boogaloo, despite its short
lifetime,  was very important for the Latin music industry in the U.S. ( Watussi eg), which managed to dance to the non-Latinos of the time and besides, it was the first authentic musical
expression of the Latino born in NY.



After several experiments with French rappers and dj, this fusion was just giving light to what would be the BoogaFlow, which was given its present form in Bogota in 2008. Sr.Ortegon met the
reggae singer and MC: Pana Black after a concert in San Andres iland and with the producer John Celis, made the first PalmaCoco format.



Back then, in his show, Sr.Ortegon played BoogaFlow mixing electronica music with Salsa, Bomba, Plena and Cumbia.



Gradually PalmaCoco was molding into the BoogaFlow show, because the public was more receptive at this as well as the electronic music apart.
