That's how U.K.'s Rock Sound describes Black Box Revelation. Brussels, Belgium may not be known for producing great rock and roll bands, but don't tell that to 22-year-old Jan Paternoster nor his
20-year-old sidekick Dries Van Dijck,who have been playing together for a decade, already releasing two albums, 2007's Set Your Head on Fire and 2010's Silver Threats (recorded in London's
legendary Konk Studios) that established the duo as a serious force to be reckoned with. A cross between R&B-inflected garage-band rock that takes its cues from mid-'60s Stones and The Kinks
to the most gut-bucket, electric delta blues evocative of Led Zeppelin by way of The White Stripes, The Black Keys and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Black Box Revelation is just that… a musical
revelation that can't be boxed into a single category.



Coming to America to record their stateside debut, My Perception, with producer Alain Johannes [Queens of the Stone Age, Chris Cornell, Them Crooked Vultures] in his L.A. home studio, Jan and
Dries felt right at home in the country where so much of the music that inspired them had been made. The result is their most accomplished album to date, with sound and noise now coalescing into
real songs like the title track and "Rattle My Heart," which might have come straight from Out of Our Heads; the spooky acoustic strains of the Beatles-meets-Kinks British Invasion vibe of
"Bitter," the haunting, stark acoustic "New Sun,"  the thick ambience of "2 Young Boys," the percussive beat of "Shadowman" and the psychedelic blues of "White Unicorns."



While building up a fan base in Europe by touring with Eagles of Death Metal as well as their own headlining shows in France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Holland and Scandanavia, the band
has played scattered shows in the States, including two years at SXSW, as well as shows in L.A., New York, Boston, San Diego and San Francisco. Seeing them live, before a packed, sweaty audience
of their crowd-surfing, head-banging fans, is yet another revelation…this one how two guys can create a sound that fills the room-and more.



With My Perception their first official U.S. album, Black Box Revelation will be making their assault on America very soon playing every garage, arena, and stadium!

Parmi les groupes belges dont on parle de plus en plus il y a The Black Box Revelation. Après un premier EP en 2006, le groupe présente ici son tout premier album studio dont le mixage a été réalisé à Los Angeles par Greg Gordon qui a notamment officié auprès de Wolfmother. Quant au mastering, il a été réalisé par Fred Kevorkian (Iggy Pop, U2, The White Stripes) à New York. C'est dire si le groupe était entre de bonnes mains.

The Black Box Revelation sont en quelque sorte nos White Stripes à nous. Ce duo guitare/batterie rappellent Jack et Meg White. D'ailleurs cela se ressent musicalement. C'est bourré d'énergie malgré qu'ils ne soient que deux. Incroyable

<nobr> !</nobr> Ils ont même un net avantage sur les Américains, le jeu de batterie de Dries Van Dijck est d'une bien plus grande qualité que celui de Meg White.

Le compositeur des chansons est le chanteur et guitariste Jan Paternoster. Sûr qu'il a dû écouter les albums des White Stripes et qu'il doit les aimer. Son jeu de guitare souvent disjoncté séduit. Son chant prend aussi les couleurs de Jack mais cela ne s'arrête pas là. La manière de chanter se tourne parfois vers Oasis et je dirais même en mieux car il ne finit pas par lasser comme Liam. Un des plus beaux exemples est ce "I Don't Want It". Il faut aussi dire qu'il a eu pour coach vocal une certaine Beverly Jo Scott. Cela explique sans doute son assurance. Autres tons de cet opus, ceux de Iggy Pop tant leur rock a aussi un côté punk. Ecoutez "Love, Love Is In My Mind" et "Cold Cold Hands", c'est édifiant<nobr> !</nobr>

Ils ont aussi un don pour le bon dosage. Ecoutez "Never Alone / Always Together". Il est très dépouillé avec pour tout arrangement une batterie légère et une guitare qui sort des riffs habillant le chant, et pourtant il ne manque rien. Côté groove on est servi aussi. Le morceau titulaire est dévastateur avec un mélange de White Stripes et de T.Rex. Et puis même en acoustique ils arrivent à étonner. Ecoutez ce terriblement séduisant "Dollars Are Sweet, The Say" où Dries soutient impeccablement Jan aux backing vocals. Et que dire de "Misery Box" que Jan chante seul avec sa guitare acoustique.

L'hypnotique "Beatbox Revelation Pt.1" démontre encore si besoin est la créativité du duo. La finesse des effets qui l'habitent émerveille. Et puis, ils ont assuré aussi côté livret. Son design est très bien réalisé et il contient les paroles.

Une moyenne d'âge de 18 ans et déjà un premier opus qui marque. Incroyable non<nobr> ?</nobr> La production est impeccable et les morceaux démontrent une bonne dose d'inspiration. Le duo de The Black Box Revelation a vraiment tout pour réussir et une fameuse carte de visite pour s'exporter. Ca y est, nous avons nos White Stripes et ils vont conquérir le monde<nobr> !</nobr> S'ils passent près de chez vous, n'hésitez pas<nobr> !</nobr>
