of sensual and sophisticated salsa adds just the right pinch of spice before things finally unload and explode in a furious outburst of pure bigbeat energy.

nach allen Regeln der Kunst zu verwöhnen. Ein exotisches Zwischenspiel mit sinnlichem und zartem Salsa fügt die richtige Prise Würze hinzu, bevor sich die Dinge engültig entladen und in einem
furiosen Ausbruch aus purer Bigbeat Energie explodieren.

Sepultura, après les excellents albums Beneath The Remains et Arise qui avaient permis au groupe de montrer au monde du metal tout le talent que celui-ci possédait, sort en 1993 son quatrième
album : Chaos A.D. Et autant le dire de suite, ce disque servit de tremplin au combo brésilien vers la gloire en proposant un thrash beaucoup plus personnel que sur les trois opus précédents et
se démarquant fortement des influences Slayer qui pesaient sur ceux-ci.



“Chaos A.D., tanks on the streets, confronting police, bleeding the Plebs, raging crowd, burning cars, bloodshed starts, Who’ll be alive?!”...

Tels sont les mots qui vous hanterons et dont vous ne pourrez vous empêcher de crier de temps en temps si vous écoutez un jour « Refuse/Resist », la chanson ouvrant l’album. Le style est
percutant, simple et efficace, les paroles jaillissent avec facilité et viennent s’ancrer dans nos têtes pour ne jamais y ressortir. Les deux chansons qui suivent, « Territory » et « Slave New
World », font le même effet, des riffs plutôt violents faisant penser à une guerre urbaine mêlés à la voix de Max Cavalera, proche de celle du death, crachant des mots chocs et directs.



Mais d’autres chansons sont nettement plus surprenantes et où on ressent vraiment l’envie que Sepultura a de ne pas se soucier des éthiques de son style en proposant des choses qui n’avaient
alors pas encore été proposées dans ce style de metal : « Amen » présente des chœurs religieux (assez discret certes) au milieu de la chanson, « Manifest » où les paroles, mis à part le refrain,
sont des commentaires de radio sur une manifestation qui a dégénérée, « We Who Are Not As Others » chanson très lancinante où seul le tître est répété plusieurs fois et de façons différentes,
mais ce qui surprend le plus c’est « Kaiowas », un instrumental inspiré de la musique d’une tribu brésilienne, Sepultura revendique ses origines et sa culture (comme nous le montrera par la suite
l’album Roots).



Malgré le fait que la musique que propose Sepultura soit directe et efficace dès la première écoute, jamais l’envie de réécouter Chaos A.D. ne disparaît car le groupe a réussi à créer un style
simple mais dont on ne se lasse pas. Des chansons comme « Refuse/Resist », « Propaganda », « Biotech Is Godzilla » ou encore « Nomad » s’écoutent en boucle jusqu’à avoir envie de manifester dans
la rue en détruisant tout sur son chemin (c’est ça l’effet Chaos A.D.). A noter aussi la très bonne reprise « The Hunt » de New Model Army. Le disque s’achève sur un magnifique « Clenched Fist »
où l’ambiance de rue est à son paroxysme. Puis Chaos A.D. est finit mais notre esprit en redemande et instinctivement on appuis sur le bouton lecture… c’est repartit.

After three deadly discs in our Maffi series Solo Banton is back with a vengeance and a full EP,

flinging big tunes, the mic and nunchuks alike with the ease of a Shaolin master that would even

have made Mr. Miyagi proud.



Starting the ride, "Music Addict" is setting fire to dancefloors with an almost pyromaniac delight

while still nicing up the area big time. Solo continues to spin a yarn about your friendly neighbour-

hood robbers in "Put It Back", his belt buckle slashing out just as hard as the beats. Witness an

epic martial arts battle in "Kung Fu Master", when 'Black Belt' Banton enters the dojo, riding the

knucklebuster basslines crane style and shows Jet Li how it should be done. Keeping up the

fighting spirit and finishing the trip is "One Of The Greatest", written during and about the people's

struggle for freedom in the 'Arab spring' earlier this year.



All tracks have been produced by disrupt, who
fills in the gaps with "Arcade Addict" and "Last Blade"

What a lovely surprise this album is. On early listening it passed me by a bit, however as a fan of Sophie's previous work I knew to stick with it. Now, I cannot get it out of my system...The
album is really very very clever and with it's production you hear new levels on each listen, tied together by Sophie's songwriting and wonderful vocals.

People will say 'chill out' and in many ways it is that, but this has a classic feel about it too.. Wonderful.

The opening track is 9:30. There are only 5 tracks. The closing track is 11:13. Let it build, no skipping forward on this one. People have lauded the opening track (Theory of Machines) as a best
of the decade (2000-2010) track. It's gorgeous, yeah. Each track builds its own sound-world, gets to a giant build-up and then... silence. A simple trick but done beautifully. Seriously. Sound
design made to sound like music. Do yourself a service and keep from missing out on a pivotal/quintessential release for the experimental/electronic/drone genre.

No One Is Innocent, voilà un groupe culte ! Pionnier de la fusion made in France avec Lofofora, Oneyed jack ou Silmarils le groupe explose en 1994 avec son album éponyme et son single dévastateur
: La Peau. Fusion de beaucoup de style, textes revendicatifs et message positif No One Is Innocent signe l’un un album majeur pour le métal français, 3 ans plus tard ils sortent Utopia, plutot
critiqué cet album reste cependant [pour moi] l’un des tous meilleurs albums fusion jamais sortis (et je ne me limite pas qu’a la France) peut être trop en avance ? Mal compris ? Quoi qu’il en
soit le groupe se sépare pour divergence musical et chacun vogue vers des projets bien différents, Kemar (chanteur) se lance en solo tandis qu’une partie des autres musiciens monte Spor. En 2004
surprise, on annonce la reformation de No One Is Innocent, seul Kemar du line Up originel reste (rejoint plus tard par l'ex guitariste du groupe), le nouvel album Revolution.com sort en août. Le
ton change, le groupe devient plus rock mais garde des textes efficaces et renoue avec le succés. Après un live sorti en 2005 le groupe revient en 2007 avec un nouvel album Gazoline.

Le Jazz est né d'une migration vers l'Ouest, de l'Afrique et de l'Europe vers l'Amérique. Le voici qui revient vers l'Est de l'Europe avec cet album albano-helvète. Une chanteuse d'origine
albanaise vivant en Suisse accompagnée d'un trio de Jazzmen helvétiques, tel est le casting surprenant de cet album.



Un seul point commun réunit l'Albanie et la Suisse: les montagnes. Et pourtant ça marche. Personne ne renonce à son identité. Tout se mélange pour former une nouvelle alliance musicale née du
mariage du chant balkanique mystérieux, étrange, passionné allié à la douceur paisible de Jazzmen suisses.



Quand vous lirez ou relirez Ismael Kadaré, l'écrivain albanais que le comité Nobel oublie honteusement de couronner depuis 30 ans, écoutez en accompagnement cette musique. La belle Elina et ses
hommes vous emmèneront à tire d'ailes au pays des Aigles, des montagnes de Suisse à celles d'Albanie. Attention, le charme, l'envoûtement de cette musique sont de plus en plus forts au fil des
écoutes. Vous voilà prévenus lectrices curieuses, lecteurs voyageurs.



Pour qui, comme moi, ne parle pas l'albanais, les textes sont traduits en anglais dans le livret de l'album. Album qui se termine d'ailleurs en anglais par une reprise de Nick Drake " The
Riverman ". Une chanteuse suisse albanophone accompagnée de Jazzmen suisses romands chantant de la pop music anglo saxonne dans un album édité par une maison de disques allemande, telle est la
merveille du monde globalisé dans lequel nous vivons. Et c'est ainsi que Mercure est grand (Hommage à Alexandre Vialatte, Chroniques de la Montagne).

Que ceux qui pensaient que seuls les héritiers de la famille Kuti étaient capables de nous faire groover avec des rythmes afrobeat remplis de modernité revoient leur jugement. Peu de nouveaux
groupes sont capables d’atteindre le niveau de transe de leurs maîtres, mais les Shaolin Afronauts font ici de remarquables efforts pour reproduire l’authenticité et la chaleur du continent
africain, même si ces imposteurs nous viennent d’Australie. Largement inspirés par les sons ouest-africains et son avant-garde jazz des années 70, les Shaolin proposent huit titres instrumentaux
tellement criants de vérité que l’on pourrait hurler au plagiat de Fela et Mulatu Astatke réunis. Prenons donc ce disque comme un hommage aux anciens, en nous passant sans scrupule la rythmique
passionnée de “Journey Through Time” ou les cuivres font bien leur boulot. Mais la bande aime aussi le jazz - nous le fait savoir sur “Flight Of The Anciens” où plane évidemment l’ombre de Tony
Allen - et semble également vouer une passion pour le funk lorsqu’elle se trahie avec un “Rise With The Blind” en velours, ou avec les caresses lascives de “Shaolin Theme”. Son secret réside
essentiellement dans un line-up comptant un trio de cuivres et une section rythmique de cinq personnes (dont trois percussionistes), et qui fait clairement la différence avec ses concurrents
directs. Cette longueur d’avance bien acquise, les Shaolin Afronauts ne se privent pas non plus de faire chauffer le parquet avec leurs textures multi-couches souvent dancefloor (”Kilimanjaro”,
le convaincant “Shira”), et pour s’offrir quelques moments de méditation (le soulful “The Scarab”)…
