Après l'insurpassable chef-d'oeuvre Handsworth Revolution (1978), l'année suivante l'offrande de Steel Pulse s'intitulait Tribute To The Martyrs, en hommage aux grands hommes noirs bafoués comme
Steve Biko.

Armed with a trusty six string, a strapping vocal and an audacious allure, Rob Sawyer’s music unites acoustic genius, punk filth, and deep-seeded reggae. The songs are at once eclectic, haphazard
and captivating, drawing on inspiration of adventure so far. They unwind tales from the road, the bike, water, sunshine, possibility, love, loss, and discovery. Moments of aggression excite
dancing devotees and radicals yet elements of tranquility balance Sawyer’s ability to conquer a room to pin-drop silence, to enthrall and stun an audience.
Melbourne adventure muso Rob Sawyer has seen a relentless endeavor so far. Sawyer arrived on the scene at the age of 17 as a young, mop haired, barefoot, acoustic guitar-shredding dude. Few
things have changed. At 25, he’s had a haircut, sometimes wears shoes and tends to shred on the guitar even more. Sawyer’s voice evolved strong and compelling to deliver a unique musical one-two
combination.
Sawyer’s tour schedule would scare the bejesus out of the most hardened musical zealot. He picked up the guitar at the age of 14, and just three short years later he won the Frankston
International Young Guitarist of the year award after, having just turned 17, the first of a slew of awards and accolades as he was often crowned Young Performer of the Year. A word of mouth
groundswell grew after larger festival performances such as The Falls Festival, Apollo Bay Music Festival, Pyramid Rock Festival, and Port Fairy Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival,
Adelaide International Guitar Fest, Blues at Bridgetown, and Folk Rhythm and Life. Sawyer has toured extensively in Australia headlining, and built a strong fan bass further afield, touring solo
and with his band in France, Holland, Belgium, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Portugal. He’s supported many a high profile act including Willie Nelson, Al Green, John Fogerty (Creedence
Clearwater Revival), Chris Isaak, Chickefoot (Van Halen, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Joe Satriani), Donavon Frankenreiter, Jeff Martin, The Cranberries, Jeff Lang, Ash Grunwald, and Lior to name a
few.
Early 2008 Rob fulfilled an ambition. He rode Australia, East coast to West - a musical tour by bicycle - Known as the “On Ya Bike Tour.” Sawyer loaded up the back of the bike with guitar, tent,
and tasty provisions to ride the 4600kms from Melbourne VIC, across the to Perth WA. Performing shows in towns and cities along the way and crossing the Nullarbor Plane during a heat wave to
experience intensity and fatigue. This journey showed much inspiration, and education, and won’t be forgotten.
A home studio was built, and over a few months of sporadic sessions, Rob’s first full-length album came in 2006 – sTUFF. Released through independently owned label Treehouse Records, the album
introduced the unforseen explosive elements Sawyer’s band, and at the same time captures the radiance of Rob’s solo acoustic works of art.
Early 2010 Rob was joined by long time mate Simo McMahon (Bass Guitar) and brand spanker, Anthony Murray (Drums) to record his second album, “Lose Discover.” Due to be released early 2011 the
album is a raw and gritty heavy progression, with a clear record of Sawyers tasty acoustic novelty. Sawyer offers a narration of a somewhat lost highway he has travelled in the past years.
Personal desires for the absent, questions of identity and love, motivation and bad habit, loss and discovery.
Sawyer and the lads just returned home to Australia from a 4-month European Band onslaught. Living out of their ratty tour van, the boys managed to cover16, 000kms of the continent, and
experienced a number of radical circumstances their “trusty” tour van coughed up along the way. First it was busted into and robbed at the beginning of the run, then fell on Rob’s foot during a
home mechanics reparation session, and at the tail end of the tour they suffered carbon monoxide poisoning, before dumping their 4-wheeled friend in south west France because the engine decided
to retire.

On a positive note, this year the Rob Sawyer Band were a part of the French Hossegor Quiksilver Surf Pro, the Lacanau Pro, and Belgium’s Dranouter Folk Festival. Rob opened for Willie Nelson, and
Al Green at Paris’s prestigious Olympia Stadium, and also for Chris Issak in Brussels, and The Cranberries in Nice. The Sawyer Band shape “talk of the town” wherever they roll. With crazy new
drummer Anthony Murray now on board, throwing out some off the cuff percussive brilliance, and long-time bass player Simo McMahon laying down the law, the band is now at home. Rob and his mates
flaunt an unforgettable display of musicianship, friendship, and good-times, ensuring all who witness leave with a grin from ear to ear.

Description du produit

All this sunny weather and an endless torrent of work has left updates a little scarce over the past few weeks, but I’m sure you can forgive me because you’re probably out there enjoying life,
drinking mojitos and carelessly frolicking in meadows. Even if you’re not…well, maybe you should read a good book and chill out instead of crying and banging your head against the keyboard like a
fleshy, irate hammer. My tardiness and your emotional problems aside, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto have once again teamed up to release their fifth and possibly final collaborative album, a
fact that both excites and saddens me in equal parts. Due for release on Alva Noto’s own Raster-Noton label on May 9, Summvs is the last in a series which began with 2002′s Vrioon and will no
doubt be as hauntingly beautiful as its predecessors. According to guilty76, the title is a combination of the Latin words ‘summa’ and ‘versus’ which serves to emphasise “the collaborative idea
behind the joint venture of these two exceptional artists, yet stressing their individual potentials.” So, yeah, it sounds interesting.
In terms of the actual music, the press release describes “passages of sparse yet emotionally charged and passionate piano solos embedded in sine waves or reworked to establish new aesthetics of
piano sound.” There is also mention of the use of one of only fifteen pianos in the world using a 16th tone interval tuning and the inclusion of two cover versions of ‘By This River’, a track
originally written by Roedelius, Moebius and Brian Eno in 1977. All the technical music stuff tends to go right over my head, hence me quoting the press release instead of writing my own
characteristically verbose descriptions, but I can already see myself lying face down in the dark listening to this record. Insen blew my tiny mind and hopefully this will help me piece together
the shattered fragments that remain.

Lorn lives in the Middle of Nowhere, Illinois. Why does this matter? Because ‘til now Brainfeeder hasn’t worked with an artist without some roots in Los Angeles, home of label lynchpin and sonic
tapestry weaver extraordinaire Flying Lotus. Think Dischord and DC, Constellation and Montreal – at their beginnings stables for locals to filter their art through; now, both are essential
threads sewn tight through the fabric of the global alternative music community. Too soon to suggest Brainfeeder will go the same way? Not on the evidence served hot by Nothing Else.
As a hot album this most certainly is – hot in the sense of being so very now, in the wake of the stutter-beat pigeonhole-eschewing masterpieces presented by FlyLo and his many almost-there-peers
(brethren for the sake of an easy parallel); and in terms of just how caustic some of these compositions are on the synapses. If the heat isn’t felt by the close of Bretagne, then Automaton will
set that unlikely situation straight. How best to convey just how the track collapses the canals, smashes up the inside of the skull, and then disappears into the dark trailing bloody, broken
remains behind it? Without Actual Physical Violence: a conundrum fit for a comic book villain in too-tight tights. Be sure to clench everything.
It is one of a handful of numbers here that treads ground also occupied by King Cannibal, so far as gut-busting, knuckle-whitening bass goes; through the right speaker set-up it, as well as the
twin Voids and the ironically titled Greatest Silence, will threaten the very foundations of whatever basement/bedsit/black hole it’s cranked out from within. The tracks that pop and fizz, spit
and bubble are closer in keeping with the dubstep world’s more visible protagonists, each detached vocal bringing Lorn closer to a commercial centre certain to earn pounds as well as plaudits.
But this man is no Starkey, no Benga, and certainly no Rusko – good-time vibes are conspicuous by their absence, and the prevalent vibe is one of peculiar melancholy. Whenever the otherwise
pervading menace subsides, anyway. Take Army of Fear – though set to a military percussive motif that’s reminiscent of a thousand rap backing tracks, the keys emanate a pain unique to the darker
corners of contemporary electronica.
Another couple of out-of-towners like Lorn, and Brainfeeder will have itself quite the army of aural assailants ready to invade territories anew.

Music for Real Airports is a multimedia art project by musicians The Black Dog and interactive artists Human which is presented in art galleries. It is also a new album of music by the Black Dog.
It is a response to the reality of occupying the semi-public space of an airport, and a contemporary reply to Brian Eno's work from the 70s.
Airports are important and revealing. They are dystopian microcosms of a possible future society. The necessity of safety requires that they be systems of human control which only elevate the
stress of their transient occupiers. Airports' promise travel, exploration and excitement but endlessly break that promise with their stale, tedious pressure. They are intense and overwhelming
environments. Anyone who travels by air will have been puzzled by the way that airports tend to reduce us to a worthless pink blobs of flesh, the human equivalent of the bags on the conveyor
belt. Yet despite the frustration of being in that atmosphere, some of the best of human nature is revealed, alongside some of the very worst. Airports make for great "people watching".
The artistic intent of Music for Real Airports is therefore to examine the nature of airports and to explore what they could be. We argue that, considering their importance in our lives, airports
have not been sufficiently represented by artists. Perhaps the best known artistic response to airports is Brian Eno's Music for Airports, whose purpose seems to be largely elegiac, even if
conceived as an antidote to the stress of plane delays. Our performances, events and installations are a more accurate update to Eno's work, and a to a degree, a riposte. Some members of The
Black Dog were disappointed by Eno's treatment of the subject in 1978 and have been considering how to produce a more meaningful response ever since.

After the release of Esthero's heralded 1998 disc Breath from Another, the Toronto singer seemed to have an open road of opportunities ahead of her. Breath soared on people's best-of lists,
allowing Esthero the chance to collaborate with everyone from the Black Eyed Peas and Mos Def to Sugar Ray. Her future seemed filled with long-term opportunity and promise. Strangely, however,
after that bright burst, the singer all but disappeared. Aside from the occasional guest performance, it was seven years of curious silence. For being such a talented singer-songwriter--one
deeply influenced by Nina Simone, Saul Williams, and Burt Bacharach--her jazzy, sultry, hip-hop grooves were timely, yet strangely absent. Finally, with Wikked Lil' Girls and its first single,
"We R in Need of a Musical Revolution," the silence wasn't just broken, it was blown wide open. An acerbic, beat-driven track, the song unapologetically attacks the current state of pop music
("I'm so sick and tired of the s#@! on the radio") rightfully and righteously. The disc then shifts from uptempto timeless pop ("Every Day Is a Holiday," featuring Sean Lennon) to sexy downtempo
("Beautiful Lie") and then to a later section of slow songs and smooth jazz--a fluid rollercoaster of sound. The final song, "Dragonfly's Outro," is a gorgeous, float-on-clouds track with horns
sampled from '80s soundtrack legend Bill Conti. Mixing up vocal styles, interesting samples, and great contemporary beats, it shows how great Esthero can be at her best--an amalgamation of many
influences and her own talented, wikked ways.
